Vueling Checked Baggage: What You Should Know Before You Fly

Understanding Vueling checked baggage rules is crucial for a hassle-free travel experience.

Your ticket type determines how much baggage you can bring, so it’s important to familiarise yourself with the specific allowances. Be aware that there are size and weight limits for checked bags, and exceeding these can result in additional fees. To avoid any surprises at the airport, make sure to weigh your luggage in advance and always check the latest baggage guidelines on Vueling’s website before your trip.

Vueling Checked Baggage (Hold Baggage)

Whether you can bring checked baggage depends on your Vueling ticket type.

If you chose the “Fly Grande” ticket type or bundle, checked baggage is included in the fare. Along with your Vueling checked baggage, you are allowed to bring:

  • One free underseat cabin bag with maximum dimensions of 40x30x20 cm;
  • One full-size cabin bag, weighing up to 10 kg, which may be placed in the overhead locker. Maximum dimensions: 55x40x20 cm.

If you opt for the “Fly” bundle, you can select one checked bag for a small fee instead of opting for a free full-sized cabin bag.

Remember, all fare types include a complimentary small cabin bag (underseat bag).

If you pick the cheapest ticket (“Vueling Fly Light”), you can add checked baggage for a fee when booking or during online check-in. It will be more expensive at the airport.

Remember, prices for additional baggage can vary, so check the Vueling website for the latest details when booking your flight.

Vueling Checked Baggage Allowance

When it comes to Vueling checked baggage allowance, the rules depend on your Vueling fare type also known as the ticket type or “bundle”.

If you have a “Vueling Fly Grande” ticket, you can check in a free bag weighing up to 25 kg.

For all other fare types, you will need to purchase baggage separately. You can choose from four options: 15 kg, 20 kg, 25 kg, or 30 kg.

If you opt for the “Fly” bundle, you can select a 25-kilo checked bag for a small fee instead of opting for a free full-sized cabin bag.

Vueling Checked Baggage Cost

The cost of checking baggage with Vueling depends on how much your bag weighs.

Vueling offers different weight options, such as 15 kg, 20 kg, 25 kg, or 30 kg.

Keep in mind that the price depends on the bag’s weight and your destination. Check the Vueling website for the latest prices.

Vueling Special Luggage (Special Items and Sports Equipment)

When travelling with special items and sports equipment, it’s important to know that these are not included in any ticket fare with Vueling, regardless of how much you pay.

Add special luggage during or after booking. It’s cheaper to add Vueling special luggage before going to the airport—either during booking or through online check-in—since it costs more at the airport.

Your special luggage can weigh up to 32 kg and should be packed properly for safe transport (e.g., ir you are traveling with a bicycle, disassemble it, deflate the tires, and remove the pedals).

Keep in mind that at some airports special luggage may be collected from a separate area.

Examples of special items include:

  • skiing equipment,
  • windsurfing gear,
  • golf equipment,
  • surfboards,
  • bicycles,
  • musical instruments.

If you’re carrying a musical instrument, it must be in its case, but you can also book an extra seat if you prefer to carry it on board.

Be aware of the size limits and ensure everything is well protected for a smooth journey.

How to Add Checked Baggage to Your Vueling Flight?

Adding checked baggage to your Vueling flight is simple and can be done during the booking process or later, during online-check in. You can pay for your checked luggage at the airport, but that’s more expensive than purchasing Vueling checked luggage online.

When purchasing your ticket, you will see the price for adding a bag, which can vary depending on your journey. If you’ve already booked your flight, you can retrieve your booking and choose the option to “Add a bag.”

For more details about baggage options and prices, you can always check the Vueling website.

What Happens If Your Vueling Checked Baggage Exceeds the Size Limit?

If your checked baggage has exceeded, you will have to pay an extra fee at the airport.

The charges can add up for each bag that exceeds the size limit, and the maximum weight allowed per bag is 32 kg.

It’s important to note that if you’re flying to or from specific countries, you are only allowed to bring one checked bag per passenger.

To avoid surprises at the airport, always check your bag’s size and weight before you leave for your flight.

Vueling Lost Baggage (and Other Baggage Problems)

Lost baggage

Sometimes your bag may not arrive at your destination airport.

If this happens, here’s what to do:

  1. Report your missing baggage at the airport immediately.
  2. Get a Property Irregularity Report with a unique reference number.
  3. Use this reference number to track your bag’s status online.
  4. If your bag isn’t found after 21 days, it’s considered lost. You’ll need to list the items in your baggage to claim compensation up to €1300.
  5. Besides compensation, you can also claim for any essential items you have to buy.

Take note: Providing a photo or clear description of your bag can help speed up the process.

While you wait for your luggage, which may take 24 hours or more to be located, you can use the online tracking system with the reference number provided.

Compensation will be paid directly to your bank account, not in vouchers.

However, airlines only compensate up to a certain limit, as defined by the Montreal Convention and the airline’s Conditions of Carriage. Therefore, it’s not advisable to pack valuables like electronics, art, or jewellery in checked baggage. Because you won’t get fully compensated for their value.

Vueling offers compensation of up to €1300 – but this is determined by the worth of the contents of your baggage and your baggage itself.

Damaged baggage

If your checked bag is significantly damaged during a Vueling flight, the airline takes responsibility and offers compensation.

If your baggage is damaged, report it immediately to the airline.

If you discover that your bag has been damaged, here’s what you can do.

  1. Submit a damage report at the airport within 7 days of receiving your damaged baggage.
  2. Provide the required details.
  3. Get a Property Irregularity Report with a unique reference number.
  4. Make a claim online.
  5. Get compensation of up to €1300.

Vueling will cover repair costs if fixable, or replace it if bag is beyond repair.

Note that Vueling is not liable for damages due to defects in the bag itself or for pre-existing damage from overpacking or standard handling, such as minor tears, scratches, or broken zippers.

Delayed baggage

If you reach the airport and discover your Vueling checked baggage didn’t make it to your destination, it might be delayed.

If your Vueling baggage is delayed, you may need to buy essential items such as toiletries, clothing, and undergarments. In this case, you may qualify for reimbursement because the baggage delay was not your fault.

Remember, these costs need to be reasonable and essential.

If your baggage is delayed, take these steps:

  1. Report the delay of your bag at the airport;
  2. Get the Property Irregularity Report or PIR with a personal reference number;
  3. Track your bag’s status online, using the reference number;
  4. Get reimbursement for your expenses (essential items you have had to purchase as a result of this delay).

To start the reimbursement process, make sure to file your claim within 21 days of receiving your delayed baggage to ensure a quick resolution.

Please note that immediate payment may not be possible.

Compensation only covers essential items that cover your basic needs.

Make sure to keep all receipts for any extra expenses, as you’ll need them to file for reimbursement. Without receipts, you won’t be refunded.

You can file for reimbursement online on the Vueling website or contact your insurance company. The latter is often easier and faster.
